The history of the early Arabian importations into Australia
is indeed very interesting and would entail much more than this page will
allow. It is these early Arabian horses and their history which is of
interest to The Old Colonial Arabian Horse Club of Australia.

- To preserve the bloodlines, distinguishing qualities and features,
of the Old Colonial Horse.
- To promote the breeding of performance and working Old Colonial Arabian
horses.
- To establish and maintain a register of Old Colonial Arabian horses.
FOOTNOTE:
The Honorary member of The Old Colonial Arabian Horse
Club of Australia, Mr L. J. Ellery of Cudgelbar Stud, Cobbera, N.S.W.
should not go without mention. Mr Ellery is Australia's oldest breeder
having established "Cudgelbar" in 1933 by arrangement with McDonald's
Tehama Stud, with the leased Shahzada mares Esther from Miriam* and Balkis
from Nejdmieh*. By preserving the blood of the desert horse intact, with
no modern blood, Mr Ellery has retained the clean limbed hardiness and
thriftness of the original Arabian horse.
*** - "From necessity and choice the Arabs practice
inbreeding and line-breeding, the best evidence of absolute purity of
blood is that it can stand close consanguinous unions without deteriorating"
. . . W. R. Brown "Horse of the Desert".
